 Spring 2014:

Poppy fought hard to recover from a hard pregnancy this year, but she lost the use of her legs and stopped eating. We euthanized her and buried her out on the range where she used to lead her herd out to browse. We miss her dearly.

Summer 2013:

Finally!!  Poppy kidded with twins and one was even a doe!  We are delighted to keep her.  Poppy's other daughters in our herd are serious production animals with Brill peaking at over 2 gallons a day.  Thanks, Poppy, we appreciate all you do for our herd.

 Summer 2012:

Oh Poppy, is it too much to ask for a doeling from you?  Evidently it is.  Poppy had a singleton buckling - again.  But Poppy is still going strong and we'll try again next year.  Poppy looks great and is milking well.

 Summer 2011:

Poppy is an amazingly productive, elegant member of our milking team.   As we've mentioned before, Poppy tends to have buck kids.  This year was no exception.  So we kept this one, also.  Spice Boy looks to be as elegant as his mom and we hope his daughters will be too.

 Summer 2010:

Poppy is regal and stylish.  She is one of the does that take charge of the herd.  We don't call her the Herd Queen since our girls operate on a more democratic level, but Poppy is looked up to by all the others.   Poppy takes their admiration in stride.

 Summer 2009:

Poppy is a strikingly beautiful girl.  Even when the herd is out browsing around the ranch Poppy stands out.  She is elegant, sweet, and very productive.  We'd love to have a whole herd like her.  Unhappily, she tends to only have buck kids.  So this year we took the hint and kept one.  He looks like he will live up to our expectations.  But Poppy...we'd still like a doeling!

 July 2008 update:

Poppy just gets better and better.  She is a beautiful, productive girl with a great attitude.  What more could we want??

 July 2007 update:

What a ham!  This girl has never been to a show in her life, yet when she was lead into the arena for her linear appraisal – she started strutting.  Her head went up, her gate became more animated, she was in her element.  We heard “Ooh’s” and “Ah’s” from the people that were here helping out.  Yup, Poppy easily stole the “show” with her presence, style, and good looks.   Two years ago we predicted that she’d be a beauty when she grew up and, boy, were we right.  Poppy, now a 2 year old, scored an amazing EEEV 90.   This girl is magnificent.  Poppy gave us twins this year and is milking almost a gallon and a half a day.

July 2006 update:

Poppy hit the ground running last year when she was born, and this year she hit the milk room at full speed also.  She kidded with twins and went right to work cranking up the milk making machinery.   Her udder is wonderfully formed and well attached.  We’d like larger teats hanging a bit more plumb, but are delighted with the rest of the “package”.  Poppy is a very feminine young lady with lots of dairy character.  She’s long and elegant.

  More background on Poppy (2005)

Poppy was our first born girl in 2005 and she really hit the ground running. She wouldn’t lay still to be cleaned off when she was born – she kept trying to walk away! Poppy always seems to have things to do. As a daughter of our Top Ten Breed Leader Jacob’s Pride Yo Flasher we expect one of the things she’ll do is make milk! She is a very elegant youngster, long legged and long bodied. She’ll be quite a beauty when she grows up.
